Meet Neil Jacobs: The Story Behind FOMO21

FOMO21 didn't start as a business plan. It started as a recognition that Bitcoin culture deserved better apparel — and that nobody else was building it the way it needed to be built.

This is the story of how the store came together, and the person who's been driving it since day one.

Who is Neil Jacobs?

Neil Jacobs is a Bitcoin brand and marketing strategist with more than a decade in the space and over 165,000 followers across X, Nostr, Instagram, and LinkedIn. He's a Big Four CPA by training, served as Head of Brand Engagement at Swan Bitcoin, and works as a CMO Advisor at Abundant Mines. He's spoken at Bitcoin 2025, BTC Prague, Pacific Bitcoin, BitcoinDay Miami, and Bitcoin conferences in Medellín, Montreal, and Abu Dhabi.

He's also the co-founder and main contributor to FOMO21.

How FOMO21 Started

FOMO21 launched in March 2022. It was co-founded by Neil and Ryan Gormady, who runs Chowdaheadz, a Boston-based sports apparel brand. Ryan brought apparel infrastructure experience. Neil has led the brand, content, partnerships, design direction, and day-to-day operations since launch.

The name itself is the thesis: there will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin, and anyone who understands that lives with a permanent FOMO — Fear Of Missing Out — about stacking more of it. The store exists to put that idea on a T-shirt. Or a hoodie. Or a hat. Or a hundred other things.

Why Bitcoin Apparel

By 2022, Bitcoin had matured well past the early-adopter phase. Conferences were filling convention centers. Companies were adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets. But the apparel scene hadn't kept up. Most of what existed fell into two camps: generic crypto merch with logos slapped on cheap blanks, or one-off designs from artists who didn't have the operational backbone to ship reliably.

FOMO21 was built to be the third option — Bitcoin-specific (no altcoins, ever), culturally fluent, and operated with the discipline of a real apparel brand. Quality blanks. Fast shipping. New designs every week. A catalog deep enough that a Bitcoiner in Buenos Aires and a Bitcoiner in Berlin can both find something that speaks to them.

Today the store carries more than 4,000 designs and has shipped to customers in over 70 countries.

A Catalog Shaped by the Community

Neil's understanding of the Bitcoin world shows up in the catalog in ways that aren't obvious from the outside. The Bitcoin Español collection exists because the global Bitcoin community is far bigger than the English-speaking corner of it, and Spanish-speaking Bitcoiners were underserved. The Satoshi Nakamoto collection exists because Neil has spent years thinking and writing about Bitcoin's origin story — and curated the designs accordingly. The conference-themed apparel exists because Neil has been on the conference circuit since before most of these events had their second year.

FOMO21 isn't run by a marketing team that researched Bitcoin. It's run by a Bitcoiner who happens to know how to build a brand. That difference shows up everywhere in the catalog.

What Else Neil Is Building

Outside of FOMO21, Neil runs Proof of Conference — a directory of Bitcoin conferences worldwide that helps Bitcoiners find events, discover speakers, and never miss a show. It's the natural extension of years spent on the conference circuit.

He also continues to advise Bitcoin companies on brand and marketing strategy — full-time roles, contract work, and speaking engagements. More on that side of things at neiljacobs.info.

The Long Game

FOMO21 has now been operating for over four years. It's been through a bull market, a bear market, and back again. The store's growth hasn't been linear, but the trajectory is clear: more products, more countries, more conference partners, more recognition in the Bitcoin community.

The thesis hasn't changed. There are still only 21 million Bitcoin. There are still tens of millions of people around the world who've recognized what that means. And every one of them deserves apparel that says it well.

That's what FOMO21 is here to make.
